World Action on Salt. Sugar & Health

Malta

2014

The Food and Nutrition Policy and Action Plan for Malta (2015-2020) was published which states that, according to the Household Budgetary Survey, 47% of adults add salt to food when cooking and 58% of adults add salt at the table when eating.

The Action Plan aims to reduce salt intake through evaluation and monitoring of salt content of all local food products, and monitoring salt intake within the population. In addition, public awareness campaigns will continue on salt reduction and public and private stakeholders will be encouraged to offer low salt or no salt products.
