World Action on Salt. Sugar & Health

Sugar Awareness Week

Breakfast provides us a great opportunity to start our day consuming a variety of essential nutrients, but unfortunately, commercial breakfasts are often high in sugar. Cereals, pancakes, pastries, rice dishes, porridges, jams, yogurts, coffee, tea and milk drinks – the food industry add huge amounts of sugar to all of them, so it’s time to highlight that our first meal of the day shouldn’t contain as much sugar as a dessert.

We will be using the week to:

  • Urge the food industry to reduce levels of sugar in the breakfast products they sell and provide healthier options
  • Encourage all schools and nurseries to offer low sugar, nourishing breakfast options
  • Promote some tasty breakfast recipes we can make at home

If you would like to get involved in Sugar Awareness Week 2022 we would love to hear from you. Please contact us: wash@qmul.ac.uk
