Blood Pressure Effects of Sodium Reduction: Dose-Response Meta-Analysis of Experimental Studies Summary
Published:
There is a direct association between dietary sodium intake and blood pressure (BP) shown from previous clinical trials and non-experimental human studies. The dose-response relationship is hard to assess in clinical trials. This dose-response analysis of experimental studies shows a linear relationship between reduction in BP and sodium intake.
This analysis demonstrates there is a linear positive relationship between sodium intake and BP and so by reducing your sodium intake by 0.5g/day, there would be a large reduction in BP. These findings apply to people who have hypertension (high BP) but also those who do not have high BP as there would still be a small reduction in BP; so vital for everyone.
