Our research has been primarily led by WASH Chairman Professor Graham MacGregor and WASH member Professor Feng He.
Graham's research work has focused on the mechanisms underlying the rise in blood pressure in hypertension, the importance of the renin-angiotensin system, and the influence of salt and potassium intake on health. Professor MacGregor has authored many scientific articles on various aspects of blood pressure and cardiovascular medicine.
Feng's research focuses on the role of dietary salt and potassium intake in regulating blood pressure and preventing cardiovascular disease. She has been involved in a number of randomised trials on salt and potassium, including leading the largest double-blind salt reduction trial in three ethnic groups of adults funded by the Food Standards Agency and a double-blind trial comparing different potassium salts funded by the British Heart Foundation. Professor He has now extended her research to China.
