How Can I Get Involved?

If you would like to get involved in our campaign, we would welcome your support! Here are a few ideas of how you can support the work of WASH:

Put Pressure on the Food Industry

The most important action you can take as an individual is to put pressure on manufacturers of your favourite foods. Supermarkets and the food industry always claim that consumers are happy with the taste of products BUT many people do not know how much salt is already in everyday foods, including bread and breakfast cereals. If the food industry is not told to make foods with less salt, they don't see a need to change their recipes.

YOU can help by adding your voice to our campaign. Write to your favourite brands and tell them you want a lower salt version! You can download our template letter (below) which can be sent to supermarkets, manufacturers and even restaurants. Good luck! Let us know what response you get.

Ask for Less Salt on Your Food

When eating in a restaurant or cafe, would you expect a chef to put sugar in your tea or coffee? Then should chefs be adding high levels of salt to your meal? Why not ask your waiter or chef to let YOU choose how much salt you would like to be added to your food when you order?

If you have a very salty meal, complain to the management staff and perhaps comment on salt levels in an online review. Similarly if you have a tasty low salt meal, rave about it!
